REACH YOUR POTENTIAL
UNIQUE APPROACH, TRANSFORMATIVE RESULTS
As part of our innovative approach to care, Viverant offers Dry Needling - a treatment technique that can help our patients decrease pain, increase range of motion and improve function. Dry Needling, or trigger point dry needling, is a treatment that involves inserting a very small, thin needle into tight, restricted muscles with the goal of reducing muscle pain and dysfunction. Physical therapists around the world are using this technique to effectively treat acute and chronic orthopedic musculoskeletal conditions.
Dry needling is best used in conjunction with traditional physical therapy practices to promote the quick return of an individual back to a healthy, functional lifestyle. It has shown to be effective with acute and chronic pain states, rehabilitation from injury, and preventing pain and injury that result from dysfunctional movement patterns. Positive outcomes are generally seen within 2-4 treatment sessions but may vary depending on the cause and duration of the symptoms as well as the person’s overall health. Desired outcomes as perceived by the individual may include: improved muscle flexibility, decreased local or referred pain, decreased sensitivity, increased rate of healing, and decreased recurrence of injury.
While Dry Needling may be a tool for all our patients, we have witnessed great outcomes for individuals (often athletes) with new or recurrent injury/pain: tendonitis, overuse, muscle strain, etc.
Additionally, this care model provides great outcomes for post-operative individuals with secondary muscle tightness and pain (6-12 weeks post op); patients with referred or radicular pain; those with sciatica, chronic low back pain Cervicogenic headaches, and referred pain from tight neck musculature.
Why a newer treatment method is gaining attention-- and getting results.
Despite its scary-sounding name, "dry needling" is a safe, effective treatment involving needles that are the same size as those used in acupuncture.
